Today we look at mutton chops; also sometimes called side curtains or side whiskers. This look is achieved when the sideburns are grown out along the jaw until the corner of the lip; although sometimes they may be shorter.
The chin is usually bare and it can be worn with or without a moustache. This style was made popular again by Hugh Jackman’s character Wolverine and since then many men have tried them out – let’s have a look.
No matter how you look at it beards are trendy and here to stay. However, with so many different styles it can be hard to decide what works for you.
# 1 Disconnected Chops with Soul Patch
This is a soft look where the chops and mustache are thick, but separated just slightly. The small soul patch adds a modern twist to the somewhat Victorian, formal look that makes you look both trendy and gentleman-like.
# 2 Jaw Chops
Here’s a look of regal elegance when wornright. The thick, long mutton chops connect to a thin moustache and they extend along the jaw. There are no sideburns to connect to.
# 3 Soft Scruff & Soul Patch
For men who want to lose the ‘stache, grow your chops soft and thin, with a soul patch to match instead. For an alternative look, let the hair grow along the edge of your chin for a twist on the classic style.
# 4 Clean Cut Chops
Where many mutton chops are bushy, here’s a look for men wanting a cleaner appearance. The hair is thin and well-maintained, low by the jaw, and connects to a trim mustache.
# 5 Eccentric Victorian Gent
This look sends you back to the 1800s. It’s eccentric. The mutton chops flow in thick, fluffy beard tendrils mid-way down the chest. The darker mustache blends in seamlessly.
# 6 White Fluffy Chops
For older gentlemen with snow-white hair, you can achieve a wonderful fluffy look with mutton chops. Thick chops and a thin mustache add a wonderfully soft look to weathered features.
# 7 Hard Lines & Thin Mustache
This is for guys who want to rock chops but with an ultra-trendy twist. The moustache is thin, lightly connected to the bristly mutton chops. There’s a hard line where the chops start.
# 8 Short & Scruffy
For men with scraggly facial hair, you can still look clean cut. Grow out the chops and mustache and have them disconnected, but lightly overlapping. Square off the ends of the mutton chops.
# 9 Flowing Chops
Emphasize your sharp jawline with long, flowing mutton chops. A soul patch, light mustache and scruff just below the chin tie the look together nicely for a complete look.

# 40 Epic Beard

Mutton chops can look great and this look is perfect for a man with a sharply angled face as they can soften the edges. They look good either long or short providing the facial hair is well maintained and neatly arranged.
Mutton chops are no longer a stuffy old style, but definitely chic and fresh again so you can expect to see a lot more side curtains around!
